Wings Of Fire Book Description:
Wings of Fire is a self-portrayal of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam covering his initial life and his work in Indian space research and missile programs. It is the story of a kid from a modest background who went ahead to turn into a key player in Indian space research/Indian missile programs and later turned into the president of India. The book has been extremely prevalent in India and has been translated into various languages. In the book we figure out how Kalam began his career in Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) and was included in the design of hovercraft. Later he moved to Indian Space Research which was the brain child of Vikram Sarabhai. In 1963, Kalam went to NASA office in Maryland(USA) as a part of a training program on sounding rocket launching techniques. There he came across a painting which portrayed Tipu Sultan’s warfare against the British.

The book covers a great deal of “behind the scene” data and technical details about India’s satellite and missile program (SLV-3, Prithvi, Agni, Thrisul, Akash and Nag). This might interest technically inclined readers but is sure to put off readers who purchased the book to get to know Kalam or to know his standards/thoughts. Space and rocket projects are complex tasks and overseeing them is to a great challenge. The book does give a glimpse administration system embraced by Kalam, yet in the meantime it doesn’t go into details.
Wings of fire covers Kalam’s own life just quickly which is strange for an autobiography . For instance, we don’t know why he chose to stay single or his exercises outside space examination (despite the fact that we can conclude at last that he was married to science and technology).
